Setting up our digital portfolio, AKA this website.
I love this idea but I have never found the time to do it. In my career I have created Google Classrooms, and Canvas courses but I have never been able to keep my work from year to year or district to district. I am a firm believe that the more responcibility and access we give students, the more capable they are to be the Masters of their own learning. This website will be the tool to enable that! VERY EXCITING!!
C-E-R
In our claim evidence reasoning we became detectives solving a mystery. I have found that in the beginning of the year students have little confidence in their interpretation of data. By continuing to utilitze this tool they grow in that confidence and their own scientific reasoning. I loved in pulling in of technology.
LIFE
Using a hula-hoop, instead of a quadrant, we looked at biotic and abiotic factors. Be sure to toss your hula-hoop randomly in a cultivated area and compare to a noncultivated area. Use apps such as "seekapp" or "iNaturalist" to help identify organims. I enjoyed the simplicity of this activity and the hands-on learning. I have never thought of using quadrant sampling to discuss these factors. If you do not have a weather station handy you can also use your resources to research the weather conditions and rainfall.I also loved the idea coming back to the area through out the year. It would be a great end-of-year project bringing in seasonal changes, and global warming effects.

Organization
In teaching levels of organization I have always used the tired and true illustration that students copy into their notes but I loved the idea of making your own unique illustrations. I used the box of crayons on my personaly work because I felt it fit the content and I am not much of a poet. In the future I hope to use the one-pager which I have always loved but forget to incorperate Costa's Level questions.
Living or Nonliving?
I found this to be a great tool. Last year was my first time having to teach this content and I could have really used this lesson. I really liked the extension, examples, and explaination as well.
Do you Doodle?
I love to using drawings and doodles in my notes but I need to practice-practice-practice. The tips I found the most helpful to me were "start with a black pen writing down key words or phrases" and go back and add drawings.
I have a very productive week. Learning is fun!!
